In a series of interviews for ‘Talking About Event,’ experts share with the audience the approaches that led to the award-winning works at the conference.
Between September 4th and 8th, the Pro Magno Convention Center in São Paulo hosted the 55th CBPC/ML, organized by the Brazilian Society of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (SBPC/ML). This year, the event took place in conjunction with the 32nd Congress of the WasPALM – World Association Of Societies Of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
The congress gathered approximately 7.000 participants and featured 250 national and 70 international speakers who delivered 50 hours of content, encompassing 170 activities, including pre-congress courses, roundtable discussions, lectures, workshops, presentations of free theme works, meetings with experts, campaign launches, book releases, and much more.
Works and Awards
One of the highlights of the event was the closing ceremony, during which the winners of the ‘Free Theme’ category were awarded. This category is subdivided into two: Traditional and PALC.
In the Traditional category, the works were required to be related to areas such as biochemistry and toxicology, molecular diagnostics, education in clinical pathology, pre-analytical and post-analytical phases, among others.
PALC, on the other hand, is exclusive to professionals from laboratories accredited by the Clinical Laboratory Accreditation Program (PALC) of SBPC/ML and in good standing with accreditation. PALC free theme topics should be about accreditation and continuous improvement in the routine of clinical laboratories.
Interviews with the award recipients
Controllab, which played an active role in the 55th CBPC/ML, promoting interactive activities and various educational initiatives, recognized the importance of speaking with some of the awarded experts to learn more about the research and methods that received recognition at the congress.
The result was a series of enlightening interviews conducted by the educational manager, Dr. José Tesser Poloni. The winners shared valuable information for professionals working in the field of clinical pathology and laboratory medicine.

- Dra. Camila Spineli, biomedical scientist and analyst at Senne Liquor Diagnóstico – Winner of the Dr. João Nilson Zunino Award for the work “Clinical Utility of Filmarray® in the Diagnosis of Central Nervous System Infections – Biological Fluids and Urinalysis”;
- Dra. Patrícia Azevedo, a biomedical scientist at the Hospital das Clínicas of the School of Medicine at the University of São Paulo (USP) – Winner of the Dr. Luiz Gastão M. Rosenfeld Award for the work “Interference Caused by Hemolysis in Coagulation Tests in a Tertiary Hospital Laboratory”;
- Dra. Tawana Correa Rodrigues, a pharmacist, works at Sabin Diagnóstico e Saúde – Winner of the Dr. José Carlos Basques Award for the work “Indirect Estimation of Pediatric and Adult Reference Intervals for Measuring Zinc in Plasma using the Turbidimetric Method”;
- Dra. Stela Cristina de Quadros Nakatani (pharmaceutical-biochemist and industrial); Dra. Alexa Sandra Fujita (pharmaceutical-biochemist); Dra. Camila Barbosa (biomedical); Dra. Daniane Grando (pharmaceutical-biochemist); and Dr. Marcos Sluzala (biomedical), members of the DASA team – Winners of the Dr. Evaldo Melo Award for their work on “Extended Pre-Analytical Stability Validation Study for Coagulation Tests.”
